This broke my heart. So many dedicated unpaid and paid carers that work their socks off and are suffering in silence with very little support. I hope these individuals in this video are ok and are seeing some brighter, happier days. I'd love to hear how they are doing now and to be able to do something nice for them. Maybe British Gas and Carers UK along with voluntary donations could do something nice for them to give them some respite and/or support?

Being knackered and still having to go on pretending you're not. I care for my wife who had a stroke for 7 years and as of last week, I have been given a massive 2 hours break every Monday from 12-2pm. The funny thing is they will pay an agency over £40 for each carer they send out for up to 4-6 hours a day and most of the time it is at least 2 at a time. Yet a caregiver who gives up work and cares for a loved one or family member 24/7 365 is entitled to £76 a week for themself. I am not saying the money is why people do it but it sure doesn't help make you feel that you are being taken seriously. Four years ago and youtube has only just recommended it whats up google not long enough for a bunch of ads.

Another year done 👍💪 But now my brain is fractured & I'm enduring mental breakdowns & so i ask British gas for help for first time in 18 yrs of being a full time unpaid carer - " don't you worry ward we'll sort this & help you" - which ended up being them actually Correcting my OVERCHARGED bill from £620 to £485 & then straight onto "ok I'll just take your details for direct debit..." That's the "help" is it British gas 😡😡😡😡😡😡 YOU WANT MY DIRECT DEBIT DETAILS SO THAT YOU CAN OVERCHARGE ME AS YOU DO ON EVERY BILL & THUS PROBABLY LEAVING ME SHORT ON MY RENT = HOMELESS.. I ENDURE FUEL POVERTY FOR YEARS- YOU CAN SEE MY COMBINED BILL(+STANDING CHARGES ETC) NEVER EXCEEDS £70 A MONTH ANOTHER WINTER WITH ZERO GAS FOR HEATING LOOMS AROUND THE CORNER & ALL YOU ARE INTERESTED IN IS HOW YOU CAN MANIPULATE MY BANK DETAILS OUT OF ME SO YOU CAN STEAL MY MONEY & I THEN HAVE TO BEG FOR IT BACK 🤔😡😡😡😡 YOU DON'T GIVE A FLYING 💩 ABOUT US CARERS ❤️ THAT'S THE REAL "BRITISH" GAS 🤢🤢🤮

I bet British gas could afford to drop standing charges for unpaid carers, I've been a full time unpaid carer for my brother for around 18 yrs & it'll be that way until 1 of us dies.. imagine 18yrs on £66. a week for my minimum 60hrs of "work" . So far this yr I've used 1 unit of gas but yet I pay over £40 a month for it ,🤔 Unpaid carer is nothing more than modern day illegal work trade they keep bantering on about that applies to others but not to us it seems 🤪😂 they even refuse to mention us now in commons debates , they refer to us now as simply " those on the lowest of incomes" it's a complete scam and on us sadly :/

Michael here ( Unpaid Carer). This is very true and very powerful. I have juggled work and done caring for a parent in the past way back in my younger days without even realising that I was a carer, it was really hard. I have now become a carer again ( unpaid / informal ) for my long time partner who i love so so much. I have health problems of my own that do sometimes get put on the back boiler ... as the saying goes, and my own health can get overlooked at times. I do worry very much about my partner should anything happen to me and how she would cope. This short and powerful film gives a brief but true insight into the lives of so many unpaid carers here in the UK ... PEOPLE who care for their loved ones at home. I Wish this was a television add being shown at peak time with a wider viewing audience. Many people and places simply don't see, hear, or even recognise the very important role of the unpaid carer to the point that we can feel invisible, very invisible.

Maybe British Gas, should send out letters to it's customer homes, under legal occupier, stating that it's record shows an unpaid £100, from a decade previously that they should immediately contact or face legal action for it's recovery, when people call the number provided, they are told that British Gas has no record of them being customers of the company, and that they will face legal action, unless they agree to being treated as new customer, pay a £100 security deposit, which they will get back after six months and be put on a first time customer highest tariffs! This scam was tactic to get more money from customer was used from the early 1980s to 2000s. This what British Gas is good at scamming customers, as a energy supplier it useless!

I've recently had a service, and looking at the check sheet afterwards, the box was ticked against checking the radiators ! but they weren't checked out at all ?

I am sorry to be negative, but British Gas is the only company I have dealt with who would not recognise my mental health problems as valid. One of their agents called me a freak when I could not open the door to him (another agent laughed at me on a couple of occasions) and they refused to do anything except to say they would deal with it ... from that moment many years ago, I have been unable to leave my home and struggle to even go out in my garden. I asked for a Smart meter as I didn't want their agents to come to my house, they refused until 3 years later. I agree with another comment here, they are completely hypocritical....... British Gas, put your own house in order before you use the subject to self promote.

I'm a un paid carer .thank you for noticing we are here. But with this covid 19 . We are still not recognize . We have no PPE . No one is giving us guidance or support . I get my gas & elec from you . I can't afford internet at home . You have taken away my dual discount bonus because I don't have internet . I have pre payment cards I now have to walk further to get my gas & elec as now I can only get it from a post office . On top of that I have to but on a minimum of £5 , some times I don't have that much . When I phoned to ask what your going to do to help with the lockdown . I was told I will have to go into deit . So thank you for this video . But some really help would actually be better . Other companies are giving one off payment to people with meters . We pay more than anyone else & we are the poorest of your customer s . So it's great to see how you spend our money on making yourselves look good while doing nothing to help any of us

After caring for my Father until he died, I realised other peoples advice sounds insane.

Hypocrites unfortunately. I've just lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman regarding British Gas' behaviour because they sent my mentally ill son 2 completely random bills 3 months and 6 months after he left them (having fully paid, on time, what was due), followed up by red letters and bailiffs letters warning they had the right of forced entry. They were already aware of his circumstances but don't seem to have the processes in place to be able to act compassionately on them.

To all Carers out there - please make sure you have regular breaks / time off. It is vital.

I like this video because it is raising awareness about what it's actually like to be a carer. A carer can go through a range of emotions.

Terrible service and even worse employees....Making me pay 800 pounds in 3 months for just electric is very hard to believe then get rude customer service when I call to ask why...Been fighting this for months now with no luck at all and no one who wants to actually help. All they want is to put on their little show and make it seem like they are trying to help but dont actually care...All they want is that paycheck and to scam you out of your own..They will never actually help you understand why you have to rip apart your savings to have a heated home...NOTHING but poor service and even worse billing systems..0/10 stars for this terrible company.
